The last things I'll sew..........for a while!

Hi Everyone
Just putting up some of the last things I'll sew for a while!

I'm 37 weeks this week with my twins & we are very excited to be bringing them into the world within the week! I've made a few last things for the nursery before packing away my sewing machine for a bit of a break, although I'm not sure how much of a break I'll be getting with 2 newborn babies coming into our world!!

Hoping after things calm down a little bit I'll be back on the Sweet Mary Blog sometime down the track!

Geometric Triangle Cushion
Geometric triangles appear to be right on trend at the moment, so I made this cushion using muted pastel colours for the girls nursery.

Bow Cushion
Wanted to add a bit of a different dimension with a different shaped cushion, so I designed this long rectangular shape cushion out of a taupe & white check gingham & added a cranberry bow made from felt.

Customised "L" Laundry Bag
I bought this cute simple laundry bag from Sam's Warehouse for next to nothing, I've just added a simple navy & white polka dot "L" for Laundry to it. Very easy, inexpensive & unique!

Hoping to do another post this week with the final photos of my completed nursery so stay tuned for that post!!!

Two Owls for Two Little Girls

You know I love Owls! Here are my 2 little Owls ready & awaiting the arrival of my twin girls who will be here within the next 2 weeks! I've used contrasting fabrics for the face, wings & breast, rick-rack around the centre & felt for the eye pieces. Decided to make one a sleepy little Owl & the other a happy chirpy Owl!

Cloud Nursery Baby Mobile

I decided to make my own home made baby mobile's for the girls nursery, there is so many garish, loud & bright baby mobiles on the market, a lot which are not really my taste, I wanted something unique, to go with the style of the room & of course original!

I decided to go with a cloud theme, so the girls can look up & see some pretty fluffy clouds floating above them in cotton candy colours!
Let me know what you think or if you have any questions on how I made it?!

I bought bamboo hoops for $4 each from spotlight & wound white knitting wool around them to create the hoop for the mobile

Rocking Chair Make Over

My friend Hannah who has only just recently began sewing (just a few months!!) sent me some photos of a beautiful Rocking Chair make over she recently did in preparation for her nursery. I thought it was just too beautiful not to share!

She had her hubby repaint the chair white & she resewed all the cushion covers....The Rocker also has a gliding foot stool so she cleverly covered this but left the base free so it would still glide when she rocks baby to sleep!

Absolutely loving the mustard yellow & floral theme!

She also made this super cute matching Owl! I just love the quirkiness of the design!

Winter Woolly Owl

I saw this red knit jumper recently at a vintage shop & thought it would be perfect to turn into a soft winter woolly Owl pillow. After washing & treating the fabric, I fashioned the Owl eyes & beak out of felt & then sewed the old jumper into the shape I wanted for my cushion. Finally I stuffed him & stitched him closed! it's so soft it's the perfect cuddly pillow for your little one.

Recycled Fabric Bunny Softie

There seems to be a huge demand and popularity at the moment for simplistic but beautiful hand made toys. The more basic & the more hand made they look the more popular they seem to be! They remind me of times gone by when these were the only toys that kids used to have.

I've made my own cute Bunny Softie below from 100% recycled materials. All of the fabrics & knits are sourced from a local second hand store, I've washed & treated them so they smell beautiful & fresh again. The great thing about recycled fabrics is they are always softer then brand new.

Little Bunny has a soft pink knitted tummy which used to be a cardigan, the checked ears & legs are made from a men's vintage shirt, the head & arms are made from a pair of girls grey tights.

Let me know what you think?!

*Please be careful using buttons on children's toys, ensure the button is stitched very well & always supervisor your young ones when they play with buttoned toys
